Poor Bernice is behind bars....

"Psst! Get me out, Rocko!"

The "Pen"

"Psst! Here's the corncake with the file in it!"

Actually, Bernice got a sore on her toe and the other chicks would not let it alone! They thought it was a bug or something and kept pecking on it!

I got another box and put her in it and she peeped so loud, poor thing. She was lonely.
So I cut a doorway and put a metal grill between the two boxes so they could see each other.

At first it was full length but one of the chicks STILL got at her foot.
So, just a little peep hole. It's still pretty sad.
She wants to be with her sisters so bad!

Chicks @ 2 weeks

They're HUGE! When we came back from Eastern, Wa I couldn't believe how different they looked. They have little things (technical term) on their beaks and long feathers!
The Buff is so straggly looking but the Reds are gorgeous in their new finery.

Moving forward with the coop

We had a few set backs like........

and a two day road trip to Eastern Wa,
but we're still moving foreward. Here is our coop as of today........

I'll post pix of the chickie birds tomorrow, I can't believe how big they got in two days!!

The coop is coming along slowly

We found an old trailer so we decided that a coop built on the solid base will be pretty easy to do. These pictures are from yesterday so I'll update them later today to show the walls we got up.

Looks like a carnival train car for a lion!

Petrie says "That's our new house?"

Note to self:

When you spend 3 weeks making a salt dough volcano and it keeps collapsing no matter how much more flour and salt you add, and you FINALLY give up and make one in the garden out of dirt......don't screw up and use baking POWDER instead of Baking SODA!

It don't work.

Is it Spring yet?

I'm tired of the gloomy skies and the cold chilly rain!

I think as soon as we got the chicks I began to believe that spring was already here and that the skies would magically dry up, the sun would burst out from behind the grey clouds and all the robins would line up in the yard and sing cheerful songs while pulling worms and then Shirley Temple would come tip tapping into the yard and clap her chubby little palms together in glee while chirping about the blue Bird of happiness!

Instead it has rained steadily ever since!
